The Shepherds Visit Jesus

Luke 2:8-20, "There were shepherds living out in the fields at night. An angel of the LORD appeared to them and the glory of the LORD shone all around them and they were so afraid.

"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you, He is Christ the LORD. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.'

"Suddenly a great company of heavenly hosts appeared praising GOD and saying...

"Glory to GOD in the highest and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests. The shepherds said to one another, 'Let us go and see.' They went to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger."

The Wise Men from Afar See Christ's Star

Matthew 2:1-2, "Magi from the east came and asked, 'Where is the One Who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.' "

The Magi traveled thousands of miles to see the King of the Jews. When they found Him, they responded with joy, worship, and gifts. (Commentary pg 1642)

They saw Jesus' star referred to in Numbers 24:17. They had traveled many miles.

Matthew 2:11, "They (the Wise Men) saw the Child with His mother and opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh."

Their response was so different than ours today. Man expects GOD to come looking for us to explain Himself, prove Who He is, and to give us gifts! But those who are truly wise will seek and worship Jesus not for what they can get, but for Who He is, GOD in the flesh come to save mankind from their sins. 

John 3:36, "Whoever believes in the Son (Jesus) has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son (Jesus) will not see life for GOD's wrath remains on them."

Be a "wise man (or woman)" and come to the salvation GOD has planned from before Creation (Ephesians 1:4-5) for those accepting Him!
