Peace in the Cross of Christ

Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34, and Luke 9:23 shares the words of Christ, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me." Mark 8:36 continues, "What profit is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?" Man can get whatever he wants in this world; power, riches, lusts, yet his lifetime of sin is but a speck of dust compared to eternity. What gain is that when all his earthly accomplishments brings his lost soul to forever be in eternal damnation!

What does "take up your cross" mean? We certainly know what it meant for Christ! The NIV Bible commentary shares this, "Jesus used the image of carrying His cross (which was a death sentence) to illustrate the ultimate submission required of His followers."
                                       *
Romans 6:11, "See yourself as dead to sin, but living to GOD in Christ Jesus."
                                       *
There are those brothers and sisters in Christ around the world that are enduring suffering for Christ. I Peter 5:10 says, "The GOD of grace Who called you to His eternal glory in Christ after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast."

Where does peace come into all of this suffering? Only those followers of Jesus Christ have His Holy Spirit that strengthens them to endure "for a little while," the peace of GOD that passes all understanding. (Philippians 4:7)

II Corinthians 12:9, Christ said, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." In our weakness GOD works His power to bring us peace which brings our rejoicing in glorifying our Almighty GOD.
                                        *
I Corinthians 1:18 "The message of the Cross is the Power of GOD!"
                                        *
May we give GOD the glory for His power and peace to come to man!
