Jesus Tells Peter Three Times to Feed His Sheep

After the Resurrection, Jesus was eating with Peter. In John 21:15-18 the Word says, "When they had finished eating Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon, son of John, do you truly love Me more than these?' 'Yes, LORD, You know that I love You.' Jesus said, 'Feed My lambs.' Again Jesus said, Simon, son of John, do you truly love Me?' He answered, 'Yes, LORD, You know that I love you.' Jesus said, 'Take care of My sheep.' The third time He said to him, 'Simon, son of John, do you love Me?' Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time do you love Me. He said (to the LORD), 'LORD, You know all things, You know that I love You.' Jesus said, 'Feed My sheep.' "

The commentary shares, "Jesus asked Peter three times to remove the cloud of Peter's previous denial of Jesus. Each time Jesus followed through with the phrase, 'Feed My sheep.' Jesus is spoken of as The Shepherd of His flock, the Flock being His Church of believers. Jesus was committing Peter to follow through with spreading His Word. Peter came to realize the significance of Jesus' words about His death and resurrection.

"How would you respond if Jesus asked you, 'Do you truly love Me?' Do you really love Jesus? Are you even His friend?" If so, share His word of salvation with those who do not know Him and what He did for mankind to be saved. He took all mankind's sins upon Him and paid in full the penalty of eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. Those who accept His free gift of salvation will forever be in eternity with Him. Those refusing His salvation will pay for their own sins forever in the Lake of Fire.  (Revelation 20:11-15)
