Hodge Podge Saturday

Three Weeks! Wow! I didn't know
cut flowers lasted so long.
I wish my outside flowers on my
bushes lasted as long!

Guess whose feathers these are?
If you said Max, you're right. It's
going on six years that I have had
him. When he loses his tail feathers
for the new feathers, I collect them
and place them in this cup. The
longest one measures 22".

This is a picture of dad in one of the jobs
he had while in the Navy. I'll never
forget the story of his first time doing
this. They were just going out for a
"ride" and dad was in his gunner's
seat, but not belted in. The pilot
decided to take a dive. Dad said as
the nose of the plane headed straight
down, his knees hit the metal shield
in front of him and he held on for
dear life! If it hadn't been for that
he would have been flying free
with no parachute! They were
over the water, but I don't think
that would have helped from the
height they were in the sky!

Hi Susan,
Yea, I am amazed at how long these flowers last if you have that lil packet of stuff they give you to put it. Mine last about 3 weeks most of the time. Have to throw some out, but just keep weeding the bad ones out. Max has lost a lot of feathers there, you should make yourself an indian headress for school at Thanksgiving,
you can be theIndian~!! lol
We have that pic of dad around here somewhere. Quite a story.
Thanks for all your sweet comments on thankful Thursday. We are doing well, Jim has been in very good spirits. We worked out in the yard a lil yesterday morning and he applied for a couple of Jobs. He thought of a guy in Lake Mary that he used to work with that he had run into at Sams not too long ago who had asked him if he was interested in a job, course, then he wasn't, so he is gonna check with him, then Dee called and gave him the email address to a man that works at Lockheed-Martin, his wife works with Dee.
So he is feeling hopeful, last time it took forever just to find jobs to even apply for.
Also he had developed something that is a great product that he tried to get them to sell at work, but they had no interest, so he is thinking that maybe the Lord might want him to do something with that and start his own business, so who knows .........we are just waiting to see what the Lord is up to.
Have a good day,
Love ya, Nellie

I remember Dad saying that when in combat while flying in the Daultless divebomber, and firing those twin machine guns for a few minutes, that he would have to quit so the barrels would not melt down. It must have been a little disconcerting to have a Jap Zero on your tail while you are waiting for your barrels to cool!

I haven't seen this picture of Dad in a while..

Thanks, Jim for the name of the plane. I couldn't remember what it was called! I hope the "smoking barrels" were the after effect of a direct hit on the jap zero plane. I guess you could put dad in the class of our best movie heroes with the "smokin' barrels" (say Clint Eastwood.) I can just see the face, "Make my day! lol!

Hi Bonnie,
Max is a blue and gold macaw. I have a video post on him "Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010." I have a picture post of him on "Friday, Jan. 22, 2010." He's a cut up and a lot of joy!
Mums, that's what they are called, ha! I just bought them because they were pretty. I didn't know what they were called, lol!

Hi Susie!

Your question is a good one. I think the best way to do it is to go to the person's last post and do a comment as I think people rarely go back to another person's post once they have commented on it.

Sometimes if it is question others could benefit from it is nice to do it in both places. Once you have written the answer it is pretty easy to just copy it and paste it into the other place.

But you don't have to do it on my question about Max as I just read the answer above.

I'll go check out the video! Oh and thanks for your sweet comments about Julia's love note. She was only seven then but she will be 10 in August of this year.
